Ways to Keep Your Resolutions This Year

on January 21, 2022

It’s a brand-new year! And here at Clintons, we’re hoping 2022 brings many positive changes to everyone’s lives. For many of us, we’ve already begun our new year resolutions and whilst setting them can be fun, keeping them can prove to be harder than you initially thought. So, as we’re halfway through January already, we’ve created a list of handy tips to keep you motivated and stick to your goals.

Start Off Small

In order to make your goal more achievable, you should be more specific about what you want. For example; if you want to start eating a healthy diet, you need to note down the steps in order to start. Try not to overwhelm yourself by taking on too much at once and maybe even write a pros and cons list of the goal before you begin. The more realistic you are, the more the resolution will be easier to manage.

Map out a plan

Creating lists and highlighting the stages you need to go through in order to achieve your goal, will help break down a resolution into manageable chunks. Create a schedule and focus on each individual day of the week. Even simple resolutions such as making the effort to visit family and friends more, if you set aside time each week, it’s more likely to become routine.

Celebrate the small wins!

It’s important to celebrate victories however big or small. As you track your progress weekly or monthly, note down any positives that have happened during that time. Keeping track of these will help balance out the obstacles you might face and keep you motivated on the path to success!

Mention Your Resolution to Family and Friends

Share your goals with your support network. Good friends will want you to reach for the stars, so will help boost your motivation by reminding you every so often to stick to it. You may have someone close to you that has the same resolution as you. By supporting each other and celebrating each other’s mini successes, you’ll both likely feel more positive about achieving and working towards the same goal.

Plan For Some Fun in Between

It’s good to have resolutions, but it’s important not to get too wrapped up in it. Make sure you reward yourself every now and then. Make plans for trips and outings with friends throughout the year or take some time for self-care. Whether it’s connecting with nature or trying out a food recipe you’ve always wanted to try, if you integrate monthly rewards, it will create more of a happy balance in your day-to-day life.

Don’t Give Up!

There will be weeks when your motivation feels a little sparse, but it’s important to remember that forming good habits take time. Even if a significant amount of time has passed, you can always recommit and map out the steps again - it’s never too late to start! If you’re persistent and establish a routine with it, you’ll stand a good chance of keeping this year’s resolution.
